Where the Impossible Begins

Knock, and the impossible may answer.

A boy knocks on a blue garden door in a brick wall covered with orange-flowered vines; a flamingo in a postman’s cap looks out of the round window, with hot-air balloons in the sky

A personal series about thresholds.

Those places where the everyday quietly opens onto the fantastic. In this first piece, a boy knocks on a garden door, and the one who answers is a flamingo postman. It was selected for the Salón Visual Bacánika 2025 in Bogotá, among 1,779 submitted works, and a fine art print was sold during the exhibition.

Process

It started as a small thumbnail, then a full pencil drawing. The last decision was the color of the door: I made several color tests, and in the end the choice came down to brown or blue. I chose blue because it stands out against the warm wall and, above all, it lets the flamingo, the central gaze of the piece, draw all the attention.
